HAPPY 89th BIRTHDAY LEGO!!

Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday to LEGO…Happy Birthday to you…

89 Years ago today, the founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, started his challenging adventure making wooden toys, like his famous wooden duck that became a LEGO set last year in 2020 (only available at The LEGO House, in Billund). On April 8th, 2021, Ole would have turned 130. Check out the history behind his journey HERE.

On LEGO’s 80th Birthday, this video that shares some important history facts was created:

Every few years, LEGO updates a quite interesting history timeline that shows the evolution of the brand:

This may not be the year to celebrate 89 years of LEGO, considering we are still facing a worldwide pandemic and it doesn’t look like there will be any big plans that we are aware of. However, we are hopeful that by this time next year life as we used to know as ‘normal’ will continue.

For LEGO’s 90th birthday, we foresee some BIG celebrations, including the LEGO Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote, which we posted about back on February 4, 2021. Check it out HERE.

The second round of voting closed on February 10, 2021. So what’s next?

lego.com: “We will now begin to review all the votes and ensure their validity before sharing the information with the product development and selection team who will be working to bring this 90th Anniversary set to life so they can make their final selection and get started designing an epic LEGO set to celebrate our big anniversary.

As communicated in earlier blog posts, the second round vote will be kept a secret until the launch of the set in 2022 as we want to keep it a surprise for everyone.”
